Benham School House Inn
Cumberland, KY 40807
This inn is housed inside a building that was once a high school, and some believe ghostly students are lingering to this very day. The inn supposedly still has lockers and class photos in the hallways, and in these halls, witnesses have claimed to hear unexplained running footsteps, laughter and doors slamming. The lights are also said to turn on and off by themselves.

My wife and I stayed one night there. When we entered the room everything was intact with a large picture sitting on the mantle. We left the room for less than anhour to come back and find the picture lying on the floor on its back. There was no damage to the frame or glass or to the floor. This picture probably weighed over 15 pounds with wood frame and glass.
There was no evidence it had fallen but just looked to have been placed there. If it had fallen it should have been on its face not its back. The angle of the mantle did not seem to allow the picture to be as close to the fireplace as it was if it had fallen. At that time I had never heard anything about the Inn being haunted. But it was strange enough that I called the front desk and asked them if there were ever strange occurrences or incidents of haunting that happened. To me it looked like someone or something had moved the picture.
Being devout Christian of a charismatic type I believed that hauntings are the work of the dark world. So we prayed and bound the spirits and slept a good nights sleep.

The school was built in 1926 to house K-12 students until 1992.
I am from Harlan County. Have been here many times but haven't seen or heard of any activity.
