There are a number of spots on this university campus that are believed to be haunted, including the Academic Complex which used to be a hospital, it is said that the classrooms, medical facilities and TV and radio stations are quite eerie. The complex workers have reported hearing mysterious sounds, have seen apparitions out of the corners of their eyes, and saw a CD player start by itself. Some say these stories may have been created to scare new students, though. In the Barnes-Campbell Hall, showers turn on by themselves and chairs crash into walls. These occurrence are said to be a student's spirit who fell down an elevator shaft. A male spirit is said to haunt the Kentucky Museum and a student who fell from the ninth floor while trying to open a window is said to haunt the Helm Library. McClean Hall is said to be haunted by its namesake, Mattie McClean, who reportedly smiles at you if you stare long enough at her picture in the lobby. A construction worker is believed to haunt Pearce Ford Tower after being crushed to death by an elevator. A student who hanged herself in the late 1970s in the basement of the former Porter Hall (now used as the registrar's office) is said to linger in spirit there. The former Schneider Hall, now the math building, has had sudden temperature changes, objects that have vanished and then reappear and unexplained sounds such as knocks. The Rhodes Harlin Hall is also said to be haunted, by a ghostly student who jumped to her death and now scratches at doors and windows. And the Van Meter Auditorium is where the apparition of a worker who fell to his death from a catwalk has been spotted. It has been said that his blood stain remains on the stage, even after being scrubbed clean and refloored.

Van Meter Hall is Creepy

I have been to Van Meter Hall multiple times, both on stage and in the audience. I have always thought the place is creepy, especially down in the corridors under the theater. The feeling on stage is discomfort and nervousness, but not the same as stage fright. In the audience, I have always felt like someone's watching me from behind. Even when I am in the very back row. Overall, I love Van Meter Hall. I enjoy performing on the stage, despite the uncomfortable feelings.
